Bear is a 2 year old German Shepherd mix living in rural Indiana that ran into some really bad times. His former family had decided he just didn't fit into their life and they dropped him off at the local humane society. He had hit rock bottom and his luck seemed to have dried up. Unfortunately, a great many dogs were left neglected and unwanted and the humane society was busting at the seams with so many wonderful animals they were trying to save. Bear spent many days and nights wondering if someone would come and give him a home again, but no one did. His time was running out...

However, thanks to wonderful rescue workers and volunteers, a transfer was coordinated to Animal Education & Rescue. As of right now, Bear is still looking for a family to adopt him, but he's safe and warm in a foster home and so happy to still be alive. Bear is loyal, friendly, good with kids, dogs and even cats. He would love a family that will appreciate the loyalty and devotion of a shepherd. If you are interested in Bear, please Contact AEAR.

UPDATE: August 6, 2007

Bear has found a home! He now has his very own fenced in yard along with 9 feline brothers and sisters... and some human ones too. He loves his new family and enjoys going for walks and car rides with his new mom. Congratulations, Bear!

Bear is one of the lucky ones. Many dogs that end up at animal shelters don't make it out alive simply because there are not enough homes for them all. If you or someone you know is looking for a new furry family member. Please check out www.Petfinder.com or visit any of the rescues on our Pink Puppy Rescue Listing. Save a life... ADOPT!

For more information on Bear you can read his bio on AEAR's site as well as the journal entry from AEAR's trip to Indiana.

Pink Puppy Designs donated a Tuxedo Dots Martingale Collar to Bear through our Rescue Partner Program!

Owner's Neglect

The below photo shows his body condition. His owners clearly had neglected him. Even after many yummy meals at the rescues you can still see his ribs. His hind legs also show little muscle and he has what appear to be fly bites on the tips of his ears. He's now being given a lot of TLC and is coming along very nicely.

Happy Dog Now

Bear is now a very happy dog. He is very grateful to be loved and cared for by kind people. He thinks his new collar looks very handsome on him and hopes it will help attract a new family soon.
